Police in  South mid western region have deported 69 Congolese. They were part of the 78 illegal fisher mongers who were arrested on Tuesday on the shores of Lake Edward in Kisenyi landing site Lubirizi district.

They were found fishing in the prohibited areas preserved for fish breeding near Kishenyi landing site in Queen Elizabeth national park. 23 of their boats were impounded.

Nine  of the arrested Congolese are still detained at Lubirizi police station pending court action, Peter Ongwara,  the DPC Lubirizi has said.

Hillary Kulaigye,  the South mid western Regional Police Commander,  says the Congolese appeared before Bushenyi grade one magistrate Ogie Phillip and were charged with illegal entry and illegal fishing in foreign waters.

Kulaigye says they  have been deported  to Congo through the Mpondwe border post in Kasese district. He says arrangements are underway to dispatch their boats and other fishing gears.

Prior to their deportation,   the 69 Congolese refused to eat on grounds that the Ugandan authorities had stolen their properties.
