An eight-year-old girl is struggling to recover from serious injuries she sustained after being raped by 30-year-old man in Moroto town.

Though she received some first aid at a local clinic near her home in Nakapelimen, Moroto Municipality, her father is still lacking funds to take her for real examination and treatment.  He is riding boda bida around the clock to raise enough money.

He wants to take her to Matany hospital, a privately facility  in Napak district, if he manages to raise the money.

When Uganda Radio Network visited the girl today at the home of Esther Bionze  who is providing care and support to the victim, the girl was shivering while taking a cup of tea although the caretaker said her condition was improving. Bioze is a friend to the girl’s father Isaac Wadaka. She helps with the girl because her mother separated with the father and lives elsewhere in Moroto town.

Bionze explains that the victim was going to answer a call of nature when the accused, John Lopuwa, a casual worker forced the minor to his house and abused her. It’s said he had warned the girl from reporting the abuse. She only noticed the abuse after the girl was seen to be in pain and couldn’t to walk normally.

The OC Child and Family Protection Unit in Moroto Central Police Station, Joseph Oumo told Uganda Radio network on phone there were many cases recorded of defilement and he could not confirm whether this particular case had been recorded.

Sharon Waduwa the mother of the victim is calling for justice to prevail for her first born.

“I want the rapist to be arrested and punished.”

Unfortunately, Waduwa has never seen the perpetrator of her daughter’s abuse because when Lopuwa was arrested early this month, she had not learnt her daughter had been abused.

Wadaka is also calling for justice on the matter.
