Rubanda County West MP Henry Banyenzaki noted that the spear and shield were smuggled into the function that was not political accusing Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi’s sister in law Hope Mwesigye for being behind it.
A section of Members of Parliament from Kigezi have issued a statement denying media reports that the International Community of the Banyakigezi (ICOB) that convened over the weekend endorsed Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi to run for the 2016 polls.
Rujumbura County MP Major General Jim Muhwezi denied the media reports saying that it is gimmick and mockery.
Yesterday the Red Pepper carried a headline “Kigezi Leaders Endorse Mbabazi for Presidency” and also mentioning Bank of Uganda Governor Emmanuel Mutebile and Health Minister Ruhakana Rugunda being among those Bakiga leaders that backed Mbabazi for Presidency over the weekend.
The two are reported to have handed a spear and a shield to Mbabazi which symbolizes power in Kigezi.
They were attending a Cultural gala at the Uganda Museum under the International Community of the Banyakigezi (ICOB).
Muhwezi notes that the leaders used a wrong platform to front Mbabazi since ICOB to which he is a founding member is non-partisan.
He accused them of wanting to turn ICOB into a political platform and urged the NRM Banyakigezi who were present at the function to come out openly and disassociate themselves from the endorsement of Mbabazi.

Ndorwa West MP David Bahati noted that as Banyakigezi they do not believe in sectarian type of politics saying that it causes disunity.
He noted that they still stand by the Kyankwanzi resolution
that endorsed President Yoweri Museveni as the NRM sole candidate
for the forthcoming 2016 Presidential elections.
In a telephone interview, Bank of Uganda Governor Tumusiime Mutebile, who is a founding member of the International Community of the Banyakigezi (ICOB), said he is not aware of whether Muhwezi had the mandate of the body to comment about the matter.
“I do not know. Is he saying he was speaking on behalf of ICOB?” Mutebile, an ex-chairman of ICOB-UG, the local chapter, replied briefly when asked whether Muhwezi had the backing of ICOB.
Health Minister Ruhakana Rugunda when contacted declined to give a comment on the matter saying that he will comment at an appropriate time.
