The Uganda People's Defense Force, UPDF soldiers have shot dead a
suspected notorious criminal in Abim district.
Christopher Olweny was killed in Alerek Sub County on Thursday.
Capt. Abert Arinaitwe, the UPDF 3rd Division Spokesman says Olweny landed in an
ambush at night with a stolen bicycle and hoes among other stolen items. He revealed
that Olweny has been on the list of the five most wanted criminals in Karamoja.
Olweny is also suspected to be behind the shootings that left a pupil
dead and three people injured last weekend in Abim.
Capt. Arinaitwe says Olweny and others have been involved in
cattle thefts, killings and other criminal activities in Karamoja and other neighbouring
districts.

Last month, soldiers recovered 18 rounds of ammunition from Olweny’s house.
According to leaders in Karamoja, cattle thefts are perpetuated by
a particular group of people, coordinating with each other from different parts
of the region.
