About 56 villages that didn't vote in Mbale district in the Local council one yesterday because of electoral violence go to the polls this morning. There are 974 villages in Mbale district.

The Assistant Mbale District Returning Officer, Robert Mugabe disclosed this at his offices at the Regional administration block in Mbale town last evening. Mugabe made the announcement after receiving petitions from the affected villages.

Some of the affected villages are found in Namanyonyi Sub County, Bugema town council and industrial division. According to Mugabe, about ten villages in Namanyonyi Sub County are expected to vote today.

Francis Brons Eruba, the Returning Officer Industrial Division, says they will conduct polls in 4 of the 31 villages in the division.  They include Somero and Nyanza cells in Namatala Ward, St. Andrews Cathedral (Garage) Cell and Foods road near Aswan.

According to Eruba, they suspended polls in the villages because of the chaos resulting from unregistered voters. Some of the unregistered voters were ferried by candidate from the suburbs of Mbale town to the polling stations.

While some of the registers had names of students who were living in nearby hostels but have since returned to their homes. It is also alleged that some of the candidates influenced the enrollment officers in their villages to only register their supporters.
