Acholi UPC Leaders Condemn Akena Over Museveni Links

A section of leaders of the Uganda People\'s Congress party in Acholi is accusing party president, Jimmy Akena of using his party position for personal interests.

The leaders, who say Akena is being used by President Museveni to destabilize the legacy of the party, claim Akena is seeking to gain political favours from him.

Dan Oola Odiya, the national Deputy Secretary for mobilization says talking to Museveni proves Akena has been working with the current president.

The leaders say they will use the delegates\' conference to challenge Akena\'s UPC presidency, and remove him from office.

Christopher Ouma Opwonya, the UPC Secretary General in Gulu says working with the NRM is a sign of desperation from Akena.

However, according Micheal Orach Osinde, the UPC spokesperson for the Akena faction, they are looking at offers from different political organizations. He says it would be wrong to say Akena has been working with the NRM.

There has been a conflict over the UPC leadership between Jimmy Akena and Olara Otunnu. Both leaders command support among the different party members.
