Africa's top female player Kate Foo Kune is among the many foreign players who will take part in the 2018 Uganda International Badminton Championship.
The event sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) will take place at the Lugogo Arena, February 22-25th. Foo Kune from Mauritius is currently Africa's best female player who is also ranked 72 by the BWF.
Simon Mugabi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) told Uganda Radio Network on Friday that he has received confirmation from Holland, Germany, Turkey, Syria, Germany, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Mauritius, Zambia and Kenya.
“ It will be good to have several top players from Europe and other African countries to make the event more competitive. It will also be a good Championship to help our players prepare better ahead of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April,” added Mugabi.
Last year's men's singles winner George Julien Paul from Mauritius is yet to confirm participation. Last year Julien Paul benefited in the final when Uganda's top player Edwin Ekiring got injured in the second game and could not continue.
Ekiring who plies his trade in Holland together with last year's women singles winner Shamim Bridget Bangi from Uganda will all take part.
The Championship will have the men's and women's singles and doubles together with the mixed doubles.
