Authorities in Agago
District have stepped up efforts to track down suspected Karamojong warriors
linked to the fatal shooting of John Bosco Ociti, 25, a resident of Mora East Kicok Village, Paimol Sub-County. The
incident, which occurred on January 18th, 2025,
has reignited concerns about the safety of communities along the district’s
border with Karamoja.
On the night of the
attack, three armed men stormed the home of Oyet
Reagan, a neighbor to the deceased, at around 9 PM. Demanding money, a phone, and directions to a
nearby army barracks, the gunmen spread panic in the village. Hearing the
commotion, Ociti intervened but fled after realizing the danger. Tragically, he
was shot in the back while running and the bullet fatally exited through his
mouth.
The attackers stole a phone, before fleeing. The attack has left residents in
shock and fear, with renewed calls for enhanced security along the border to

“The situation is
worrying, and we urge the government to increase security deployment along the
border lines to protect our people,” Ojok said. Inspector of Police (IP) Joe Oloya, Acting Public Relations Officer
for Aswa East Region, confirmed that police are actively pursuing significant
leads. “We have completed the initial investigations, including a post-mortem,
scene documentation, and witness statements. The stolen phone is being tracked
to identify the suspects,” Oloya stated.
Local leaders have urged
the public to cooperate with police efforts, emphasizing the importance of
community vigilance in addressing the recurring threat of armed incursions.
Meanwhile, police have reassured residents of their commitment to bringing the
culprits to justice and restoring peace in the region.
