Age Limit: DP President Norbert Mao Arrested

Mao has been spearheading a campaign dubbed to Kogikwattako with the aim of stopping the proposal to scrap the presidential age limit from the constitution.
Police have arrested the Democratic Party-DP candidate Norbert Mao while attempting to enter parliament with DP legislators this afternoon. Police intercepted Mao, saying he didn't have business in the house.

He was whisked off to Kampala Central Police Station where he is being held. Our attempts to get a comment from police were futile as our calls to several police bosses went without response.

Mao has been spearheading a campaign dubbed to “Kogikwattako” with the aim of stopping the proposal to scrap the presidential age limit from the constitution.

In an earlier statement, Mao said it is time for Uganda to see a peaceful transition of power. Mao accuses Police of confiscating their petition books against the presidential age limit removal.

Tension has been building in the country since the NRM caucus resolved to present a motion in parliament seeking to delete article 102 (b) of the constitution. The caucus mandated the Igara West, MP Raphael Magyezi to seek leave of parliament and present a private member's bill on the matter.

The move is aimed at paving way for president, Yoweri Museveni, who will be above 75 years of age, to seek another term of office in the 2021 polls.
