Amolatar CAO Held Over UGX 43M Court Debt

David Opentho, the Operation commander from Amani Trust Bailiffs and Auctioneers told URN that Ogwang's arrested was sanctioned by Masindi High Court.
The Amolatar District Chief Administrative Officer, Godfrey Ogwang is in detention for alleged failure to pay about Shillings 43 million in court debts.

A team of court bailiffs from Amani Trust Bailiffs and Auctioneers picked up Ogwang from Zengebe landing site in Nakasongola district on Tuesday on his way to Kampala for official duties.

He was driven direct to Masindi Central Police Station in Masindi town where he is expected to appear in court today. David Opentho, the Operation commander from Amani Trust Bailiffs and Auctioneers told URN that Ogwang's arrested was sanctioned by Masindi High Court.

Trouble for Ogwang stems from a civil suit filed by Ssansa Nalubega in 2012, the then Town Clerk of Bweyale Township in Kiryandongo district challenging her interdiction by the debtor for allegedly absconding from duty during his tenure as Kiryandongo Chief Administrative Officer of Kiryandongo.

She won the suit and was awarded Shillings 43M for wrongful interdiction. However, Ogwang didn’t pay the money, which prompted Nalubega to secure an arrest warrant. This is the second time Ogwang is being arrested over the same debt.

In May, 2018, Ogwang was arrested in Masindi town by police and court bailiffs on the orders of the then Masindi High Court deputy Registrar, Simon Kintu Zirintusa.
