Amolatar District Councilors Granted Bail, Released

The four were arrested, charged and remanded on November 28, for attacking the District Service Commission offices (DSC) and ejecting the acting secretary of the commission. It is said that the group also removed from the notice board, a list of candidates that had been shortlisted for interviews and locked the commission offices.
The Grade One Magistrates Court in Amolatar district has released four district councillors who were remanded over criminal trespass and malicious damage.

The councillors who are also members of the District Executive Committee include Sam Onyang, the Secretary for Finance, Jasper Okori Okot, the District Vice Chairperson, Grace Aber, the Secretary for Education and Health, and Gladys Ecegu, the Secretary for Works and Transport.

The four were arrested, charged and remanded on November 28, for attacking the District Service Commission offices (DSC) and ejecting the acting secretary of the commission. It is said that the group also removed from the notice board, a list of candidates that had been shortlisted for interviews and locked the commission offices.

Amolatar Grade One Magistrate Kaibei Cherotich says that the accused persons applied for bail on grounds that they have important council business to run and that they are high profile persons who cannot fail to appear in court when required.

Each of them was released on a cash bail of 800,000 Shillings after they presented substantial sureties.  They are expected to report back to court on January 12, 2022.
