Amudat District Gets Health Centre IV

Amudat District Health Officer Dr Peter Kusolo is optimistic that with the upgrade, the community of Amudat will access more specialized services such as laboratory, surgical and maternity. He is hopeful that this will also curtail maternal deaths.

Karita Health Centre III in Amudat District has been upgraded to a Health Centre IV.  It now becomes the biggest health facility in the area, which has been relying mainly on the services of a non-profit private hospital run by the Church of Uganda.

Amudat District Health Officer Dr Peter Kusolo is optimistic that with the upgrade, the community of Amudat will access more specialized services such as laboratory, surgical and maternity. He is hopeful that this will also curtail maternal deaths.

Dr Kusolo added that there will be more personnel, from the current 19 to at least 49 which will include two doctors, one medical officer and a senior medical officer. The upgrade takes effect from July 1, 2020, according to a confirmation by the

He said that the district health department was making necessary preparations ahead of the operationalisation of the upgraded facility, adding that construction of the theatre has been completed and will be commissioned on July 1. Other preparations he said include the construction of the staff quarters which are partially complete.

The plan has raised hope for better health service provision among residents of Amudat district. Phillip Lokemer, a resident of Karita hopes that the Health Centre IV will match the growing number of patients who need specialized care.

Rose Chemingeny, another resident of Karita Sub County says that the upgrade of Karita is a positive step in taking health services closer to the community. She said the facility will serve most Sub Counties Amudat and de-congest Amudat Hospital that a section of the community can’t afford.

John Robert Adiama, the RDC of Amudat District says the upgrade will create job opportunities for health workers and other support staff.
