Police in consultations with the Electoral Commission have allocated the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party presidential candidate, Patrick Oboi Amuriat another campaign venue out of Kitgum District.

This stems from the collusion of his campaign schedule with that of the NRM presidential candidate, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Both Amuriat and Museveni were allocated November 17 to hold their campaigns in Kitgum District by the Electoral Commission.

The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, Jimmy Patrick Okema told Uganda Radio Network this morning that Amuriat has been allocated the neighbouring Lamwo district for his campaigns.

He says both candidates were allocated the same date in Kitgum district, which prompted them to take a decision to allocate Amuriat a separate venue avoid possible collusion between the supporters of the candidates.

Okema says President Museveni’s schedule hasn’t been interfered with. President Museveni will hold his campaigns for East Acholi at Boma Grounds in Kitgum Municipality.

Okema says Amuriat has also been guided not to enter Kitgum Municipality but to use Omiya Pachua in Agago district via Namukora and Mucwini in Kitgum district to Padibe in Lamwo district. The FDC Northern Uganda special presidential envoy, Christopher Acire says their campaign plan was approved and November 17 was allocated by EC for their presidential candidate to campaign in Kitgum.

He says the party hasn’t yet got any official communication from EC giving them a new venue for their campaigns outside Kitgum district.

Morris Santo Oyoo, the Kitgum District FDC Chairperson faults EC for fixing the same date for two different presidential candidates without making due harmonization.

Oyoo says the party will now announce a new date for Amuriat to hold his campaigns in Kitgum District. But Rogers Mulindwa, the NRM Party spokesperson, says they had harmonized their campaign schedule, and Kitgum district campaign is to be held today with full knowledge of EC.

“This is the programme we submitted to the electoral commission and the approved programme indicates that our flag bearer should be in Kitgum today because tomorrow he will be in that side of Karamoja. I think this collusion should have been a slight mistake from Amuriat’s side,” Says Mulindwa.

Paul Bukenya, the EC Spokesperson told URN in an interview that the date had been harmonized and reserved for NRM. “We harmonized the programme and reserved the date for NRM, which submitted its Programme earlier," he said.

Both President Museveni and Amuriat embarked on campaigns in Acholi on Monday. Amuriat traversed Agago and Pader districts while Museveni held campaigns in Gulu for West Acholi.
