The Forum for Democratic Change – FDC party Presidential
candidate, Patrick Oboi Amuriat has made an impromptu rally at Opit Town
Council in Omoro District.
Amuriat was scheduled to hold a rally at Awere Playgrounds in Gulu City West
Division this afternoon. However, his entourage from Kitgum was intercepted in
Paicho Trading Centre by Field Force Unit - FFU police personnel.
The Gulu District Police Commander Emmanuel Mafundo had planned to direct
Amuriat’s entourage through a guided route in Gulu City to avoid causing chaos
in the city central business area.
However, when they approached Unyama Trading Centre, five kilometres
away from Gulu City Centre, police ran out of fuel forcing Amuriat’s convoy to
take a wrong turn via Gulu Core PTC
through Pageya and Labora trading centers to Opit.
“We dodged police deployments because they wanted to divert our convoy through
undesired routes before reaching our rally venue.” Wilson Oyat Chagga, an FDC
official accompanying Amuriat told URN in an interview.
The Police highway car was later seen carrying their barricades they had
mounted in front of Bank of Uganda in Gulu and Corner Kitgum road, along Gulu –
Kitgum highway where they were expecting to intercept Amuriat from back to Gulu
Central Police Station.
Amuriat, who campaigned in Lamwo District after engaging police in running
battles in Kitgum Municipality was scheduled to campaign in Omoro on Thursday
tomorrow and late to Nwoya and Amuru Districts.
Earlier Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Regional Police Spokesperson warned
FDC party officials against defiant acts that would attract security wrath.
