Amuru Health Officials Investigate Outbreak of Strange Disease

Amuru health department is investigating an outbreak of a strange disease in the district. The strange disease was reported to district authorities by local leaders in Olinga village in Labala Parish in Pabbo Sub-County on Thursday.    The authorities say the strange ailment presents with skin rash that forms small, itchy layers of skin blisters starting on the chest, back, and face of an infected person.

 

Margaret Odokonyero Okot, the Assistant Amuru District Health Officer told URN on Saturday that a surveillance team of health workers has already been dispatched to investigate the strange disease.

Odokonyero, however the work of the team is being hampered by impassable roads that lead to the village following heavy torrential rains in the area and poor network.  

  Local authorities in the area says the disease started manifesting in the area about a week ago and has so far affected more than 100 residents, majority of whom are women and children.

 

  Linda Agness Auma, the Amuru Resident District Commissioner– RDC and Chairperson Security Committee disclosed to URN that the village is densely forested and sparsely populated with impenetrable roads that make delivery of healthcare services daunting.     

According to Auma, being isolated and a hard to reach area, the surveillance team have been tasked also investigate the water sources that the community use for domestic consumption.
