Amuru district has offered land for the installation of
the first solar power plant to light the site of the 1995 Attiak
Massacre in Attiak Sub County.
The 10 acres plot of land situated in Awer Paker
village Kal West Parish in Attiak Sub County was last month offered by the
family of Olodi Akech.
The 0.5 Mega Watts (500Kilowatts) solar plant will
be installed by Off the grid power firm, Xsabo Group at no cost.

Ocan says some of the beneficiaries will include low-income
households who lost their loved ones in the massacre, churches, schools and
Attiak health centre IV.
Rwot Santos Richard Apire, the clan chief of Attiak
Chiefdom who lobbied for the plant says the power plant will help light up the
conflict stricken area whose hope fades whenever darkness looms yet they cannot
access power from the national grid.

He applauded the community for offering the land and at
no cost.
Dr. David Alobo, the Executive Director Xsabo Group says
the installation will commence immediately once the on-going feasibility
study is complete because the company does not need any licence from the
Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) to put it up.
He explained that they downgraded the capacity of
the plant from 2 Megawatts to 500KW after a baseline assessment indicated that
it will adequately meet the current demands of the area.

Commissioner has applauded the group saying their initiatives will tremendously
improve livelihoods the community.
Xsabo Group in January this year launched a flagship
20MW solar plant in Kabulasoke in Gomba District built at a tune of US$25
million.
It says it will build up to 150 MW Solar plants around the country
over the next few years.
Other areas identified
to benefit from similar projects include Soroti (50MW), Mubende (50MW), Kasese
(20MW), and Lira (10MW). The Company is expected to invest up to US$200
Million.
