Furious Councilors of Anaka Sub-County in Nwoya District Locking their LC3 Chairperson's Office
Angry councillors of Anaka Sub-County in Nwoya District on Monday locked out the LCIII Chairperson, Geoffrey Opobo on allegations of incompetence and abuse of public office.

Led by Ben Oyoo, the Ywaya Parish LC III councillor and Secretary for Health and Education, the councillors allege that Opobo has been involving in fraudulent land deals and conducting illegal meetings on behalf of the council among others.

Oyoo on Tuesday said that Opobo also deliberately dodged a full council meeting conducted held last week and yet he was expected to provide answers to crucial matters on the administration and management of the sub-county.

According to Mary Oola, the female councillor for Pabali parish who also doubles as Opobo’s Vice says that the chairman has been acting contrary to resolutions made by the Executive Committee members.

The councillors petitioned Opobo through the Resident District Commissioner, Agnes Ebong; Nwoya LCV Chairman and Police Commander for a meeting on Monday to resolve their grievances but the chairperson did not turn up.

Aggrieved by Opobo’s conduct, the councillors locked his office and butted the door with reeds of timber before Ebong intervened.

On Tuesday, Ebong and the councillors were locked up in a closed-door emergency meeting trying to resolve the standoff.

Ebong, however, castigated the councillors for taking the law into their hands before exhausting all other available conflict resolution means.

Attempts to get comment from Opobo failed as repeated calls to his phone went unanswered.
