The chairperson of the Board of Governors of Padrombo Seed Secondary School has rejected the appointment of a Muslim to head the school.

The School, located in Koboko District, is founded by the Church of Uganda under the Madi and West Nile Diocese. It's on the basis of its foundation that Rev. Tom Lemeri, the Chairperson of the Board of Governors rejected the appointment of Zubeir Data Ismail, as the school headteacher.

Lemeri argued that the appointee may not uphold the values of Christianity and its doctrines as required since he subscribes to the Muslim faith. He has since written to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education to rescind the appointment.

Prior to his posting to Padrombo Seed SS as a substantive headteacher, Data served as the deputy head teacher of Kochi secondary school in Koboko district. Data told Uganda Radio Network that he has never enjoyed the comfort of the new office he was appointed on June 22.

But, Koboko District Education Officer Wayi Dagamulai has advised the affected head teacher to seek guidance from the ministry such that the matter can be handled swiftly.

Juliet Paratra, the Diocesan Education Coordinator for Madi and West Nile Diocese declined to comment on the matter.

This is not the first time newly posted head teachers have been rejected in the region on the basis of their religion.

In 2019, the authorities of Arua Parents Primary School rejected the head teacher posted at the school for being a Christian since the school was Muslim-founded. Similarly, in 2014, the administrators in Kitgum girls' primary school rejected the appointment of Benson Aleng as the school head teacher on account of his religion.
