In May, unidentified armed robbers
shot and critically injured a businessman identified as Noor Katusabe and his
wife who was identified only as Nsungwa who were targeted as they returned home
from their shop in Kyenzige town Council, Kagadi district.
The couple was ambushed as soon as they entered their gate and asked to surrender all the cash they had. Katusabe
resisted, prompting the robbers to shoot him in the neck, causing critical
injuries before fleeing from the scene.
The robberies have continued despite the recent arrest of seven suspected robbers in a police-led operation which also led to the recovery of one gun. The suspects were identified
as Private Ivan Kato 34, a deserter from the Uganda People's Defense Forces-UPDF and
resident of Magondo cell, Kazo
district, Richard Aliganyira 34, a resident of Khumbi village in Kyenjojo district and Patrick Fina 34, a
resident of Kahungabunyonyi village in Fort Portal City.
The others are Chris Luweza 25, a
resident of Rwengoma cell in the Central division of Fort-portal City, Yasin
Kyaligonza 26, a resident of Kyakasana cell in Kagadi
district, Januarious Agaba 26 of Nyamamga cell, in Kagadi
and Natasha Katusabe 19, a resident of Rweihamba village
in Kamwenge district.
They were arrested during an
intelligence-led operation conducted by the Police, UPDF soldiers, and other
sister security agencies in Kagadi. They were found hiding at a service point
bar and lodge situated in Muhorro town council.
Upon arrest, the security
operatives recovered an AK47 riffle registration number UGPOLZ7514807408 and
one magazine with 4 rounds of ammunition from the thugs. The thugs were also
found with three pairs of army uniforms and three army jackets.
