Lira Grade One Magistrate court sitting in Lira has remanded a suspect who impersonated military personnel to Lira Government prison over aggravated defilement and child trafficking charges.

Steven Aine Mugisha, a resident of Tesobar Village, Lira City West Division was re-arrested Tuesday last week after he was released on Monday night under unclear circumstances.

The suspect has been charged with aggravated defilement under Cap.129 and section 3 and 4(c) of the penal Code Act and trafficking of children under Cap. 3 section 1a and 5a of the prevention of trafficking in persons.

He appeared before Her worship Pamela Nanyanzi, the Lira Grade One magistrate who immediately remanded him until 30th August when he will appear before the same court for mention.

Prosecution alleges that between 2016 and 2022, Mugisha recruited, harbored, received, maintained and transported the now 17-year-old girl by means of deception or position of vulnerability for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

Rashida Adong Oketcha, a human right’s activist is happy that justice is being served for the girl who has suffered for so long. Adong called on the community members to expose defilers so that they face the law.

On Friday last week, the suspect stormed St. Katherine Girls Secondary School in Lira City demanding to pick up a senior III student whom he has been taking care of. However, the school authorities denied his request on grounds that the girl had reported him for sexual abuse and he was arrested but later released on Monday.
