Army Recovers a Mortar Bomb in Kaberamaido

The Uganda People\'s Defense Forces – UPDF Friday recovered a 182 millimeter bomb in a garden near Otuboi trading centre in Kaberamaido district, along the Soroti-Lira highway.

Maj. David Omagor, the overall Intelligence Officer and the commandant operation Restore Hope for Teso sub-region says the bomb was discovered abandoned in a garden near the trading centre.

The bomb could have been abandoned during insurgency in Teso region, and was recovered following a tip-off from the community, according to the UPDF. Maj. Omagor says Operation Restore Hope that was introduced in Teso in 2008 to recover illegal ammunition did a good job, but there could still be some weapons left.

Last month, the army recovered a 160 millimeter mortar bomb at Amejeit village, Kapir sub-county in Ngora district.
