Arua City secured a 90 Billion Shillings project from the European Union to be implemented by KFW a German firm, which will involve the extension of water and construction of the compost plant.
Arua City Council has approved the purchase of 22 acres of land for the construction of a modern composite plant.
Arua City currently has one garbage recycling plant
which was constructed in 2007 with funding from the National Environment Management
Authority-NEMA for the then Municipality but the facility has since been filled to capacity.

Millicent Milly the deputy Mayor of Arua City said the team recommended that the Council purchase the
22.115 acres of land belonging to Jovinali Efitre and two others in Ombokoro
Cell, Ayivu division Arua City at 165 Million Shillings.

Joseph Ayaba, the Councilor of Ombokoro Cell cautioned against personal interests and added that he will keep monitoring closely all processes in the land
transaction and the establishment of the modern compost plant to ensure there
is value for money.

Meanwhile, some of the councillors urged the team to desist from corrupt practices and ensure the proper consent of
the sellers to avoid litigation.

The Modern Compost Plant project is expected to
start in July 2025 and will be implemented and supervised by
German Technocrats based in Arua City.
