Police in Arua district are
investigating circumstances under which, a man killed his wife in a domestic brawl before taking his own life.
Liberty Madima, a resident of Alio Village, Tilevu parish in Vurra sub county killed his wife, Gertrude Maneno around 2:00 am on Sunday morning before committing suicide by hanging.
Preliminary reports indicate that Madima picked a sharp
knife and stabbed his wife several times in the stomach before committing suicide.
Festus Amayo, the LC 2
chairperson of Tilevu parish in Vurra sub-county, says that he got the
information about the unfortunate incident at around 6:00 am after he was
informed by the LC 1 chairperson of Alio village.
Amayo explains that when he visited
the home of the deceased, he found blood stains on the compound, an indication
the deceased could have been stabbed.

Radio Network-URN that her son-in-law picked up his deceased niece at around 10:00 pm from his home where she had been living for the past
few weeks.

The Arua district police commander, Lilian Birabwa notes that they visited
the scene and transferred the couple's bodies to Arua regional
referral hospital for post-mortem as investigations continue.

Records at the child and family protection unit at Arua
central police station indicate that three cases of death resulting from domestic
violence were reported last year.
