Arua Municipality Set to Become a Regional City

Stephen Arubaku, the councilor for Rigbo Sub County is optimistic that the regional city will provide market for local produce. He says this will also reduce the suffering traders from here go through when they go for business in places such as Juba in south Sudan.

Arua district council has passed a resolution to annex six sub counties in Ayivu County to the municipality paving way for establishment of a regional city in West Nile.

The Sub Counties to be annexed as part of Arua municipality include, Pajulu, Oluko, Manibe, Aroi, Adumi, and Ayivuni.

Arua district is the second district in the Country to pass such resolution to establish a regional city after Mbarara district as envisaged in the National Development Plan and Vision 2040.

Stephen Arubaku, the councilor for Rigbo Sub County is optimistic that the regional city will provide market for local produce. He says this will also reduce the suffering traders from here go through when they go for business in places such as Juba in south Sudan.

Boniface Alioni, councilor representing Logiri Sub County says the district leadership plus the MPs should work together to see that the establishment of the regional city is fast tracked.

Charles Asiki the Mayor for Arua municipality also welcomed the initiative saying this will ease planning and development.

Earlier Arua municipality had secured funding from the government for physical planning of the municipality including some surrounding sub counties in Ayivu but the move met a lot of resistance especially from the elders who claimed that it was aimed at chasing away the Ayivu Community.
