Police in Otuke district are investigating circumstances under which a businessman was shot dead, and two others including a parish NRM chairperson were injured by unknown assailants.
A businessman in Otuke district has been shot dead by unknown assailants, while two other people were left injured. Joseph Okabo died instantly after he was shot on the head, during an attack at Amintenyo trading centre in Adwari sub-county.
Central North Police spokesperson, Manshur Suwed says two other people survived with injuries, including Morris Ojok, 40, the NRM chairperson of Alango parish.
The injured victims were rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital where they are receiving treatment, while the body has been taken to the same hospital for a post-mortem.
Area LC 1, Tom Odongo says the assailants went in a Noah van, and parked in front of the deceased\'s commercial building where many residents were gathered. They then started shooting at the group and killed the businessman instantly.
Odongo says after the shooting, the gunmen drove away on Lira road.
The killers did not take anything with them, causing suspicion that they were not robbers. It is reported that the deceased wanted to contest for the area LC 1 position.
