Anguma joined Muni University in 2015, coming from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), where he had various roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Science. At Muni University, he also held the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs.

Muni University has appointed Associate Professor Simon Anguma Katrini as its new Vice Chancellor for a 5-year term, following the passing of Professor Christine Dranzoa, the founding Vice Chancellor, on June 28, 2022. 

In a September 13, 2023 press statement, the University's Senior Communications Officer announced that Anguma's appointment was made by Bishop Henry Luke Orombi, the Chancellor of Muni University, based on the recommendation of the University Council.

The statement read, "In accordance with the powers vested in him by section 32 (2) of the Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 (as amended in 2006) and upon the recommendations of the University Council, the Chancellor of Muni University, Bishop Henry Luke Orombi, has appointed Associate Professor Simon Anguma Katrini as Vice Chancellor for a period of five years."

Prior to this appointment, Associate Professor Anguma had served as the Acting Vice Chancellor for one year, starting from September 2023, following his appointment by the former University Chancellor, Dr. Erick Tiyo Sekebuga Adriko. 

Anguma joined Muni University in 2015, coming from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), where he had various roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Science. At Muni University, he also held the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs.

According to information from the Muni University website, Associate Professor Anguma holds a Master of Science in Physics, specializing in Nuclear Radiation Physics, and a Ph.D. in Physics, specializing in Solar Energy Physics. He is also a leader in the East African Astronomical Society.

Eng. Joel Aita, the Chairperson of Muni University Council, congratulated Associate Professor Simon Anguma on his appointment, expressing his eagerness to work with him. Muni University, located in Arua City, was established by the Ugandan government in 2013 under Statutory Instrument No. 31, in accordance with the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act of 2006.

Since its establishment, the University has grown to have six operational faculties offering over fifteen academic programs.
