All three top contenders in the Nakawa East Parliamentary Race all anticipate a landslide in their favour. They include Michael Kabaziguruka, the incumbent MP for Nakawa division which was recently split to create Nakawa West and Nakawa East constituencies, Former MP Fred Ruhindi and Division Mayor  Ronald Balimwezo.

Kabaziguruka is contesting again on the FDC ticket, while Ruhindi is running on the NRM ticket and  Balimwezo is the official candidate of the National Unity Platform. The trio was nominated on Thursday by Kampala District Electoral Commission Chairman, Fredrick Muwaya Tibakuno.

Ruhindi who lost the seat to Kabaziguruka in 2016 attributed his loss to the disorder that was in his NRM Party and adds that his party has since addressed the inefficiency that led to his loss.

Kabaziguruka said he has come up with the manifesto that focuses on small scale undertakings to improve people’s livelihood. He said he deserves to stay in parliament because without people like of his stature, the ruling party will continue passing budgets that favour the status quo without anyone querying them.

Balimwezo accused his rivals of being corridor legislators. He said Nakawa East deserves an MP who articulates issues of citizens such as advocating for natives’ safety and security, health and food. Balimwezo said buying ambulances for voters does not reflect a legislator’s performance but it juts blindfolds voters.
