Wilson Bitamazire Mijumba, the Vice Chairperson for the Banyabindi Cultural and Development Trust, said that Byabasaija falsified accountability documents, misrepresenting funds that were never utilized.
The Kasese Grade I Magistrate’s
Court has remanded the Chairperson of
Banyabindi Cultural and Development Trust on allegations of forgery and embezzlement.
Court presided over by Isha Alinda, heard that last month, Augustine Byabasaija while at Mwaro
Cell of Rukoki Ward in Nyamwamba Division of Kasese Municipality forged payment
receipts and vouchers for the Banyabindi Cultural and Development Trust with intent
to account for missing money.

Bitamazire Mijumba, the Vice Chairperson for the Banyabindi Cultural and
Development Trust, said that Byabasaija
falsified accountability documents, misrepresenting funds that were never
utilized.
He added
that the recent audit discovered that about 900 million shillings belonging to the
association members was unaccounted for.
Byabasaija was tasked to account for the funds and to their surprise, he presented
fake documents which prompted them to open up a police case and he was
subsequently arrested.
Byabasaija was not allowed to take a plea because of the absence of the State Attorney. He was remanded to Mubuku Prison until September 30th.
