Bassajabalaba, Kasenene Charged with Fraudulent Disposal of Muslim Properties

City tycoon, Hassan Basajabalaba, has been charged with fraudulent disposal of Muslim trust property making documents without authority and conspiracy to defraud the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

Basajabalaba is jointly charged with the Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Mubajje and the former Uganda Muslim Supreme Council General Secretary, Edris Kasenene. The trio is accused of illegally selling property on Plot 30 on William Street in Kampala to Haks Express Limited at 600 million shillings. They are also accused of selling another plot on Plot 102 William Street at Shs300 million.

Court presided over by Buganda road court chief Magistrate, Margaret Tibulya, heard that the accused illegally disposed off part of the land at UMSC headquarters and another plot on Port Bell Road in Kampala.

The prosecution told court that they had gathered enough evidence to implicate the trio.

But appearing before court this morning, Basajabalaba and Kasenene pleaded not guilty to the charges. They were granted a non cash bail of 20 million shillings and a 50 million shilling non cash bail for each of their sureties.

The Mufti was however not in court. His lawyer, Muzamir Kibedi told court that the Mufti was in Nairobi on official duty. He is expected to appear in court on March 16th when the trial begins.
