Residents of Nyakinengo and Katamba wards in
Biharwe Division in Mbarara municipality are up in arms against their leaders for
failure to provide them safe water.
The most affected are residents of Rwemikunyu,
Katamba and Nyakinengo villages.
Janurious Byanyamahanga, the Biharwe Division Councilor,
says the area has five parishes that have a huge population where people trek
long distances to get safe water.
He says the few available dams are too small
to satisfy the water need.

Leonard Musinguzi, the Rwemikunyu Cell LC I chairperson
blames the area leaders for failure to priorities provision of safe water on
the area. He says the available safe water was only pumped to the trading

Hajati Madina Linas, a resident of Katamba accuses their
leaders including Members of Parliament of making empty promises when it comes
to safe water provision.

She says they share the only available water sources with animals.

He says they allocated government land to host a
water tank to supply their area but nothing has been done.

The Biharwe Division LC III Chairperson, Steven Muganga
told URN that they visited the area with officials from National Water and
Sewerage Cooperation and Resident district commissioner and convened a meeting
with the affected residents.
He says they will soon extend safe water services
to the area.
