Boda Boda Rider, Passenger Drown Near Clock Tower

A boda boda cyclist and a female passenger have drowned in an open water channel around Kalitunsi stage, near Clock Tower in Kampala.

 

The incident occurred around 1:40pm during a heavy downpour, as the cyclist tried to ride on a pavement so as to dodge heavy traffic.

 

Ibn Ssenkumbi, Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson says the body of the rider has been retrieved but the passenger and the motorcycle are still missing. The names of the deceased are not yet known.

 

A Uganda Radio Network reporter says fire brigade personnel rushed to the scene but were hampered by the fast-flowing water, forcing them to wait until water subsided before beginning the search.

 

The incident has slowed down traffic around the Pan African Square as boda boda riders and onlookers gathered around the spot of the accident.
