The body of the teenage girl who jumped to death in Kyakatagwa River in Kyotera district on Monday to protest the arrest of her boyfriend has been recovered.

Residents of Kyakatagwa village in Kabira sub-county retrieved the deceased’s body from the river on Wednesday morning after searching the whole of Tuesday in vain.

The area LC I chairperson, Stephania Nassaka, says the body was taken to the Kalisizo hospital for postmortem before it was handed over to the family members for burial.

Richard Kalanzi, the Kabira LC III Chairperson, says that the girl's parents dragged her boyfriend to police for spoiling their daughter.

He says the furious teenager warned to end her life if her lover was not released immediately.

Kalanzi has appealed to residents to always seek counsel from the local authorities on family matters that are beyond their control.

Judith Akello, the Kyotera District Police Commander (DPC), says investigations are still on.
