Residents of
Kamenya and Kiteza villages in Kawolo sub-county, Buikwe district are excited
about receiving 10 new boreholes to enable them to access clean and safe water.
The boreholes
were drilled by A Future for Orphans Uganda organization and are spread sub-counties
of Kawolo, Njeru, and Nkokonjeru. The sub-counties lacked water sources forcing
residents to share dirty water sources with animals, putting their lives at
risk. The residents also walked for more than 5 kilometers in search of clean
and safe water sources.
Joy Naminsi
says that the only well in the village was contaminated which caused outbreaks
of diseases in their homes. She expressed excitement over the donation and said
that the boreholes will enhance access to clean water as well as save time for
women to do other domestic chores.
“We are sharing the same water source with our animals. This has contaminated
the water hence constant sicknesses in our homes,” she says.
Sarah Nakimuli another beneficiary from Kiteza village, says that the boreholes
will help reduce cases of fights among women and also minimize cases of
waterborne diseases since they now have a clean and safe source of water.
