Brig Gen. Byanyima Warns Retiring Soldiers Against Divisive Politics

Brig Gen Byanyima, who is the Commander of the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) Motorised Infantry Division, was addressing retiring soldiers under his area of command. He also encouraged retired soldiers to remain active contributors to national development by supporting government initiatives.

The Commander of the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) Motorised Infantry Division, Brig Gen Charles Byanyima has warned UPDF retirees against engaging in divisive politics. 

Brig Gen Byanyima, said that the soldiers must at all times foster unity even after retiring from active force duties.

“You’re retiring today after serving your country with pride. I advise them to focus on fostering unity within your communities. I request you to avoid involvement in divisive political activities,” Brig Byanyima said.

Brig Gen Byanyima, was addressing retiring soldiers under his area of command. He also encouraged retired soldiers to remain active contributors to national development by supporting government initiatives. 

“As we see you off, we urge you to manage your retirement benefits responsibly, engage positively with your communities, and respect leaders at all levels to promote unity and collaboration,” Brig Gen Byanyima added.

Retirees, Col David Mugisha, the Cantonment Commander, said that they should count themselves lucky for having served in UPDF and their nation at large. “I express my gratitude for the service and I remind you cherish your well-being. You have been fortunate to complete your duties safely,” Col Mugisha said. 

Col Mugisha encouraged retirees to continue caring for their families responsibly and to build positive relationships with civilians, emphasising that collaboration with the community is essential for mutual success and harmony.

Lt (Rtd) Saleh Kamba, reminded the retired officers to maintain the connection with the government. This, Lt Kamba, said would help them remain valued citizens. “I encourage you to stay engaged in government projects because learning is a lifelong process and your experience is a valuable asset to national progress,” Lt Kamba said.
