Retired Uganda People's Defence Forces' Brigadier General Emmanuel Rwashande has been nominated to contest for Lwemiyaga Constituency in Ssembabule District in the NRM party primaries.

Rwashande was on Friday nominated by the National Resistance Movement Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr Tanga Odoi.

Rwashande presented his academic documents and other papers to the Legal Department for verification. The department is headed by Lawyer Enoch Barata and accompanied by Anthony Bazira.

Rwashande said that there have been fake reports on social media that he doesn't have academic papers and that he was turned away.

He accused the Incumbent Member of Parliament, Theodore Ssekikubo, of being the mastermind of social media fake propaganda with a mission of confusing the masses.

Rwashande said that it was not uncalled for Ssekikubo to fabricate papers and circulate them on social media.

Rwashande was among the few NRM aspirants who were allowed to access the nomination venue with his supporters.  Although other people are allowed to come with only three people, Rwashande was allowed with more than twenty of his supporters who chanted slogans.

His supporters, led by Retired Major General Phinehas Katirim, said it's time up for Ssekikubo, who has been in Parliament for more than 24 years.

Other aspirants who have been nominated to contest in the primaries include Sauda Kauma Alibawo for Woman MP, Iganga, Kole North MP. Dr. Samuel Opio Acuti, the State Minister for National Guidance, and Godfrey Baluku Kabyanga.

Kabyanga said that Bukonzo County West has lagged behind in terms of the education system, health system, and road network.

Others were Peter Ogwang, the State Minister for Sports, also nominated as Ngariam County MP, Katakwi district, Isaac Kato Nshemereirwe for Mbarara City North Constituency.

Former Uganda Medical Association President Dr. Samuel Oledo was also nominated to contest for the flag bearer of Moroto County in Alebtong District.

In 2024, Oledo mobilised doctors and led them to kneel before President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in Kololo, as he begged the President to contest again in 2026. His actions were criticised by members of the Uganda Medical Association.

Margaret Nantongo Zziwa was also nominated for the Nakawa West Constituency, and Samson Lokeris for Dodoth East Constituency in Kabong District.
