A bridge that was still under construction in Bududa district has collapsed.

along Bunatsami–Bushiribo road collapsed
after Tsutsu river burst its banks following heavy
rains that lasted for over three hours on Tuesday evening.
The district commenced the bridge works in 2019 under the force on account system-a payment method for construction work where there is no existing agreement on cost.
Residents such as Hamza Makayi, Julius Wakoko, and Robert Mangobe, says that they have been complaining about the shoddy
works on the bridge.
They are happy that the Bridge has collapsed confirming their complaints about
the quality of work.

Chairperson, says that he tried to inquire about the bridge works when it was
starting but he was chased away.

Patrick Mukhonde, the
Bunatsami Sub county LC 3 Chairperson, says that during her recent visit
to the district, Esther Anyakun, the State Minister for Disaster Preparedness stopped the bridge
construction works citing shoddy
He, however, says that the district
engineer ignored the directive and continued with the works.

Wakibi blamed the district engineer for not being helpful.
