Bufumbira East Parliamentary Elections Called Off

Alex Ainebyoona, the Kisoro District Returning Officer, told our reporter that the Commission decided to cancel the polls after receiving the complaint from Buturo.
Electoral Commission has called off the Bufumbira East parliamentary election in Kisoro district following a petition by the NRM candidate, Dr. James Nsaba Buturo over a mix-up of candidate's symbols on the ballot.

Buturo petitioned the Commission after he was assigned a bicycle on the ballot paper instead of a bus, which is the official symbol of NRM party candidates. Alex Ainebyoona, the Kisoro District Returning Officer, told our reporter that the Commission decided to cancel the polls after receiving the complaint from Buturo.

Buturo was initially, nominated as an independent candidate after his rival Eddie Kwizera Waghahungu secured a court order restraining NRM from presenting him as its flag bearer citing flawed polls. However, Buturo managed to have the ruling overturned by the High Court and went ahead to get nominated as the NRM candidate.

Eddie Kwizera Waghahungu accuses his rival of cowardice, saying the postponement of the polls was uncalled for.
