Bugisu Leaders Eulogize Former Umukuuka Wamimbi

Leaders in Bugisu sub region and members of the Inzu Ya Masaaba cultural union have eulogiesd the late Umkuuka emeritus Wilson Wamimbi Weasa describing him as the most unifying symbol the region has ever had.

Leaders in the Bugisu sub-region and members of the Inzu Ya Masaaba Cultural Union have eulogized the first Umukuuka of the Bamasaba Cultural Institution, Wilson Wamimbi Weasa describing him as a unifying symbol.

Speaking on behalf of the cultural leadership, the Inzu Ya Masaba Prime Minister Charles Walimbwa Peke, who worked with the deceased when he was Chairperson of Greater Mbale, said that Wamimbi championed reconciliation among warring parties in the sub-region.

Walimbwa described the late as a unique leader who started the cultural leadership in Masaba having served as the firstUmkuuka when the cultural union was formed in 2010.

The Speaker of Mbale District, Robert Wangwe said that there are plans to name the new district headquarters under construction in Busoba sub-county after the late Wamimbi. 

Lydia Wanyoto,  the Chairperson of the NRM Women’s League said that Wamimbi was generous and provided support to the best performing students.

Umukuuka Wamimbi was born in 1938 in Busano sub-county, Mbale district and trained as a teacher at Kyambogo College before going for further studies at Makerere University. 

Wamimbi assumed the position of Umukuuka on 1st July 2010 and served until the end of his 5-year term when he was succeeded by the Late Bob Mushikori. He also served as the Chairperson of Greater Mbale between 1987- 1998 and as an Ambassador of Uganda to Canada.

Wamimbi will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Busano village in Mbale district on Saturday.
