Baker Masiko, the former FDC candidate for Bukanga MP bi-elections has denounced the party following the last minute decision by the party leadership to cancel his nomination. The FDC leadership withdrew the candidature of Masiko and instead fronted Tito Turiyo as the party candidate. It all started after Electoral Commission bounced Masiko from the nomination exercise over lack of the requisite academic qualification. On Monday, Masiko showed up for nominations with a catering certificate, which was rejected by electoral commission.

Electoral Commission directed Masiko to seek clearance from the National Council of Higher Education before he is nominated. On Tuesday, Masiko presented a letter from the education ministry certifying that he took a catering course, but it was rejected by a panel chaired by Electoral Commission chairperson Engineer Badru Kigundu. As a result, FDC hurriedly seconded Turiyo Tito for nominations as the party candidate. Francis Mwijukye, the FDC youth coordinator says that as a party they rushed to present a candidate with the requisite qualifications to avoid further embarrassment.

However, the decision by the party to front Turiyo has not gone down well with Masiko. He has threatened to drag Electoral commission and the FDC leadership to court for conniving to block his nomination. Baker announced his decision to defect from the party as he accused the FDC leadership of sidelining him.
