Bukanga NRM Primary Polls Delay

Voting is underway in Bukanga County, Isingiro District as NRM selects a flag bearer for the Parliamentary by-elections due to take place next month.

The process is however delayed in some sub counties where polling materials were not distributed on time despite a commitment by the Party’s electoral commission that materials would be at all designated polling centers by 6.00 am.

Bukanga county has 292 villages.

In Kashumba Sub County, Meble Natukunda the area district councillor says some villages have started voting while in some parishes the materials had not arrived at polling stations.

Similarly, James Byaruhanga, one of the voters in Rugaaga Sub County says by 9am the whole of Endizi Sub County and some parts of Rugaaga Sub County had not received any polling materials.

Joseph Kiiza the chief campaign agent for one of the candidates Aaron Turahe faults the Party’s electoral commission, claiming this could be a deliberate move to deny their voters a chance to vote since his candidate is born in Endiizi Sub County.

Kizza accuses Nathan Byanyima of conniving with the district Registrar Jackson Twongyirwe to delay the materials as one way of rigging since the returning officer has was allegedly cited in Byanyima’s house at night.

But both Nathan Byanyima and Twongyeirwe have vehemently denied the accusations.

But Elijah Mushemeza, the vice chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission says the distribution and transportation of election materials begun as early as 6:00 am but were delayed by transportation due to poor terrain.

The candidates contesting include Engineer Nathan Byanyima, Steven Kangwagye Aron Mpeirwe Sosten Taremwa John bosco Mubiru David Taremwa and Jeremiah Birungi Kamurari among others.

The seat fell vacant after the death of MP Gregory Matovu.
