Bukomansimbi police are holding a woman accused of killing her 2-year-old step daughter. The suspect is 37-year-old Makulata Nanyonga, a resident of Kasenyi Village in Bigasa Sub County in Bukomansimbi district.

Nanyonga is accused of assaulting her step daughter with a shoe on the head for allegedly soiling her under garments leading to her death.

Musa Kiyimba, the father of the deceased, says he was shocked to receive a phone call from a neighbor informing him that his daughter had died after being assaulted with a shoe on the head.

According to Kiyimba, he rushed home and found the minor's lifeless body lying in a pool of blood. Nanyonga was nowhere to be seen. Ssentongo Kiggundu, a neighbor the family, says Nanyonga was fond of mistreating the minor and giving her hard despite her tender age.

Kiggundu says they have been informing Kiyimba about Nanyonga's conduct towards the minor but he didn't take their concerns seriously.

Manisur Sserwadda, the Bukomansimbi District Police Commander, says police tracked down Nanyonga with the help of residents and picked her from her hideout to answer for her crime.

Sserwadda says the suspect is likely to be charged with murder once police investigations are complete. The Bukomansimbi District LC V chairperson, Muhammad Kateregga has condemned the incident, saying it's normal for such minors to pee on bed and soil their clothes.

He says Nanyonga's decision to punish the minor was uncalled for. Kateregga advises parents and guardians to be cautious about the children's lives. He asks police to expedite its investigations and present Nanyonga to court for prosecution.

Police has handed over the minor's body to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
