Susan Namaganda, the Bukomansimbi Member of Parliament has rushed to Kampala to petition Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of Police following threats by NRM youth to block her victory party. Namaganda has organized a huge bash on Sunday August 28th to thank voters for electing her and the dismissal of a petition filed by her rival Halima Nakawungu challenging her election.
However, a group of NRM youths under Save Bukomansimbi NRM leaders are opposed to the victory party saying it is being organized with ill motives. Already a group of sate house operatives led by Joseph Mukasa Sewava has pitched camp in Bukomansimbi to block the victory party. Mukasa says that Namaganda’s victory party will not be allowed to take place because it is meant to act as a launch pad of popular protests against the ruling government.
He claims that Namaganda has been mobilizing her electorates to match to state house, which can not be allowed. Mukasa says that he has mobilized NRM youths in Bukomansimbi to beat up any opposition leader who will start up any protest against government.
// Cue in: “Anybody any leader…..”
Cue out: “…we can’t tolerate that.”//
Gabriel Kalungi, the Secretary General Save Bukomansimbi NRM group says they expected MP Namaganda to consult them and the district council about her activities. He explains that failure to notify them shows she is organizing hooligans to destabilize their otherwise peaceful district.
// Cue in: “Definitely we shall also mount…..”
Cue out: “……we expect in Bukomansimbi? “//
Namaganda says that she has decided to petition the IGP over the matter. The MP insists that she notified the police in Bukomansimbi about her victory party but police seems to be collaborating with NRM leaders to block it. Namaganda denies allegations by NRM supporters that she wants to launch protests. She claims that her party is strictly to thank her voters for voting her and celebrating her court victory two weeks ago.
Namaganda also claims she is living in extreme fear because NRM youths have threatened her life. Frank Nantamba, Bukomansimbi DPC says he is aware of Namganda’s victory party but has not yet heard of the threats by NRM youths to block it.
Nantamba declined to comment further saying that he needs to investigate the matter.
