Voters in Bulambuli district have tasked independent Presidential candidate, Amama Mbabazi to come out with a comprehensive strategy to end unnecessary land evictions once he is elected into office. Voters told Mbabazi during his campaigns in Bulambuli on Sunday, that almost half of the people in the district have suffered land grabbing and evictions orchestrated by the incumbent government.

They cited the long standing land dispute between the Sabiny and Bagisu in Bunambutye Sub County, which has resulted in the displacement of several people. Abdi Fadhil Chemaswet Kisosi, the Kween county MP and a resident of Atari, which borders Sebei, Karamoja and Bugisu region says the dispute has seen more than 5, 000 people displaced from their land.

He claims that in the early 1970s, several residents fled to the neighboring Kenya and some parts of Bugisu because of cattle rustling. He claims that the displaced persons returned after about 10 years, only to find their land occupied by squatters.

Eseri Nambozo, a mother of six says majority of the land grabbing victims lost a number of their cattle to the conflict emanating from the dispute. She reminisces the time when she had resettled on her land in 1991 and was attacked by some people claiming to be the rightful owners of the land.

The group made off with cows belonging to her family. Nambozo also wants Mbabazi to consider restocking the area to compensate them for their lost animals.

Mackey Osire, another resident wants Mbabazi to address the poor Education, health and Agricultural sectors, which he says are key in the development of the country. Osire says that much as land grabbing and evictions have become the order of the day, priority should be given to Education, health and the agricultural sectors.

Mbabazi who campaigned in Bulambuli, Sironko and Mbale town on Sunday said unlike the incumbent government, his administration will be all inclusive.
