Bulambuli Woman Held Over Husband's Death

John Robert Tukei, the Elgon Region Spokesperson told Journalists that Muzakhi was arrested on Sunday evening after the deceased’s relatives demanded to know his whereabouts and filed a complaint with police.

A woman in Bulambuli district is in police custody for allegedly killing her husband and dumping his body in a pit latrine. The suspect is Joan Muzakhi 48, a resident of Kidega Villige in Simu Sub County in Bulambuli district.

 

She is accused of killing her 60-year-old husband Lawrence Magona and dumping his body in a pit latrine on October 9th, 2019 following a quarrel. 

According to police investigations, the coupled developed a misunderstanding when the deceased asked for his conjugal rights after being denied sex by his wife for 10 months. 

Muzaki reportedly ignored her husband after he tested positive for HIV yet she was negative. 

John Robert Tukei, the Elgon Region Spokesperson told Journalists that Muzakhi was arrested on Sunday evening after the deceased’s relatives demanded to know his whereabouts and filed a complaint with police.   

Tukei explains that Muzakhi confessed to have killed her husband when she was picked up and interrogated by police. 

According to Tukei, the suspect explained that she hit the deceased with a hoe on the head and bled to death when he tried to rape her.

Muzakhi reportedly told police that she dumped the deceased’s body in a pit latrine, which is 50meters away from their home and locked it. 

She reported convinced her children that the deceased had traveled to Kenya their relatives and that she had closed the latrine because of a big snake. 

Tukei blamed murders in Elgon region to the increase in gender based violence in homes.

Police retrieved Magona’s body from the pit latrine on Monday and took it to Mbale Mbale municipal morgue for postmortem.
