The police in
Buliisa have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly burning a 16-year-old
boy.
The suspect has been identified as Shaban Amanda, a local artist and a resident
of Butiaba landing site in Buliisa district.
It is alleged that Amanda has been living with Charles Mungudit for the last
five months, but went missing from his parent’s home six months ago under unclear
circumstances.
It is alleged that Mungudit stole a flash disk belonging to
Amanda. Amanda allegedly tied Amanda’s hands and legs and poured petrol all over his body
before setting him on fire. He sustained injuries on his face, arms, hands,
back, stomach, legs, and chest.
Residents became suspicious and tasked Amanda to explain the whereabouts of the
victim after they realized that the child was missing in public for the last
two weeks. They were shocked when they broke into his house and found
the victim in critical condition.
They immediately alerted the police who arrested Amanda on Saturday.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson says that
investigations into the incident have commenced.
