Mpairwe\'s election was annuled on Friday after court rulled that the election in which she was declared victor was fraught with gross irregularities.
The High court in Masindi has annuled the election of the Buliisa woman Member of Parliament, Beatrice Mpairwe.
Mpairwe's election was annuled on Friday after court rulled that the election in which she was declared victor was fraught with gross irregularities.
Mpairwe's election was contested by Norah Bigirwenkya (independent), who sought a court order to annul her rival's election on grounds that she was robbed of her victory.
Bigirwenkya filed a petition at Masindi high court challenging the actions of the electoral commission and her political rival during the election process. She asserted that the entire electoral process was flawed and asked court to nullify the outcome of Buliisa district woman parliamentary election.
In his ruling, the assistant registrar high court Masindi, Lillian Mwanda, nullified Mpairwe’s election on grounds that the election was not free and fair and ordered the electoral commission to organize fresh elections. She however said that anyone who is not satisfied with the ruling has a right of appeal.
Shrotly after the ruling, Bigirwenkya’s supporters stormed out of court and started jubilating outside the court chambers.
But Mapirwe said on Friday that she would appeal against the ruling.
