Over 1,000 people who were displaced by floods in Bundibugyo District have returned home.

This follows the closure of the host camps of Semuliki High Secondary School in Harugale Sub County and Bubukwanga Transit Camp in Bubukwanga Sub County.

The floods which hit the district in December devastated 12 sub-counties from Bwamba and Bughendara counties and claimed the lives of at least 20 people, washed away several crop gardens, properties and soils from hilltops. Over 1,152 households were affected.

The LCV Vice-Chairperson Barnabas Bezinde says they have decided to close down the camps and support the affected persons direct from their homes.

Bezinde urged people to return to their homes, become productive and embrace government programs.
