Andrew Byakutaga, the Kingdom Prime Minister told Uganda Radio Network in an interview on Thursday morning that they have decided to close all their premises for a period of fourteen days as they monitor the COVID-19 situation.

Andrew Byakutaga, the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Prime minister confirmed the closure of the office premises over COVID-19 to URN .
The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has suspended operations
at all the Kingdom offices after two of the Kingdom staff tested positive for
the deadly COVID-19 Pandemic. The offices were closed on Wednesday evening.
Andrew Byakutaga, the Kingdom Prime Minister
told Uganda Radio Network in an interview on Thursday morning that they have
decided to close all their premises for a period of fourteen days as they monitor
the COVID-19 situation.
He says on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Kingdom
conducted a mandatory COVID-19 test to all the Kingdom officials and unfortunately
two of the workers tested positive for COVID-19. He says the two were immediately
told to isolate as they undergo treatment.
He says the Kingdom has also directed all
other workers including ministers to stay home for a period of two weeks.
“We have currently closed all our offices
after two of the Kingdom staff tested positive for COVID-19 and we have advised
all the ministers and other Kingdom officials to work from home for a period of
fourteen days as we closely monitor the situation;” said Byakutaga.
Byakutaga has equally cautioned the Kingdom
subjects to be extra careful and observe all the guidelines issued by the government
to guard against the pandemic.
Last week, the Kingdom suspended the Omukama’s
27th coronation anniversary due to the surging cases of COVID-19.
The coronation anniversary also known as
Empango is commemorated on June 11th annually to celebrate the day Iguru
ascended to the throne.
It attracts
thousands of Kingdom subjects who flock to the palace [Karuzika] to attend the
function.
During the celebrations, the King’s subjects
and guests are treated to different cultural performances including dances,
drama and poetry recitals.
Iguru was enthroned on June 11, 1994,
following the restoration of kingdoms by the ruling National Resistance
Movement-NRM Government.
The Kingdom said they could not allow hundreds
of the Kingdom subjects to converge at the Kingdom palace to celebrate Iguru’s
27th Coronation anniversary yet the COVID-19 Pandemic is ravaging
the country.
