Buruuli chiefdom loyalists are up in arm against the reconstruction of the Palace of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi at Nakasongola district headquarters. Last week, Buganda Kingdom loyalist led by the Buruuli County Chief, Gerald Kyanjo Kimbugwe embarked on the reconstruction of Kabaka's Palace located at Nakasongola district headquarters. They started by erecting a metallic gate and barbed wire fence around the palace.

The Buganda loyalists plan to construct a permanent palace since the previous one was torched under unclear circumstances early this year. The reconstruction of the palace has drawn protests from Buruuli cultural leaders, saying it contradicts the directive issued by Security Minister, Henry Tumukunde and Memorandum of Understanding signed between President Museveni and Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.

Samuel Kasirye the Prime Minister of Buruuli Chiefdom explains that in the Memorandum of Understanding, President Museveni made it clear that land, which formerly belonged to Buganda in Nakasongola be handed over to Buruuli chiefdom for redevelopment.

Kasirye says that the land where the palace is being reconstructed belongs to Buruuli Chiefdom, saying they can't allow Buganda officials to construct on it a permanent palace for their king yet it is just a stone throw away from the offices of their cultural leader Isabaruuli Mwogezi Butamanya.

He says early this year, Security Minister, Henry Tumukunde also halted the reconstruction of the palace until the land dispute is resolved.

The Buruuli Chiefdom Prime Minister, Samuel Kasirye has since petitioned Tumukunde to intervene and block Mengo from further reconstruction. In his Oct 3rd, 2017 letter, Kasirye says people may resort to violence if their grievances are not addressed.

Samuel Kaweesi, the Spokesperson of Buruuli Chiefdom, says they don't want to confront Mengo, which appears to be provoking them.

The Buruuli officials have filed a complaint against Buganda County Chief Gerald Kyanjo at Nakasongola Police Station. Paul Kangave, the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, says Police has started investigations in the matter to avert possible clashes between the warring parties.

The Buganda County Chief in Buruuli, Gerald Kyanjo Kimbugwe, says he has already recorded his statement on the matter. He also says the Security Minister didn't put his directive stopping the reconstruction work in writing, which isn't binding.

He insists that the land they are utilizing belongs to Buganda Kingdom. He challenges Buruuli Chiefdom to produce a copy of Memorandum of Understanding, which proves that the land was handed to them.

Buruuli Chiefdom also wants Buganda Kingdom to surrender land at Kakooge, Nabiswera and Kalungi sub county headquarters and three square miles of land in Lwampanga Sub County.
