Bushenyi Activists Remanded for Attempted Murder

Paul Mujuni, the Bushenyi Grade One Magistrate didnt allow the accused to enter any plea since his court lacks jurisdiction over capital offenses. He remanded Kakonge to Nyamushekyera government prison until August 1st when his case will come up for mention.
 Apollo Kakonge, the Chief Executive Officer of West Ankole Civil Society Forum has been remanded to Nyamushekyera government prison for attempted murder. Kakonge appeared on Tuesday before Paul Mujuni, the Bushenyi Grade One Magistrate where he was charged with attempted murder.  

 

Kakonge is wanted for assaulting and causing bodily harm to Abraham Muganzi, a journalist with TV West based in Bushenyi. It is alleged that Kakonge assaulted Muganzi on July 11, 2017 when they developed a misunderstanding at Kimeza, a popular joint in Bushenyi town.

 

 

According to evidence before court, the suspect reportedly hit his victim with a cup on the head twice before pushing him to the wall. Muganzi became unconscious and was rushed to Mayanja Memorial hospital in Mbarara where he has been receiving treatment.

Kakonge, who looked confident, insisted he was innocent before he was whisked off to the court cells in transit to prison.
